Michael Alig will always be known for his reign as “King of the club kids” back in the 90’s, but the death of Andre “Angel” Melendez will always haunt him.

Alig was released from jail yesterday. He served a 17 year sentence for his part in the murder of fellow club kid, Angel. He was killed and mutilated by Alig and his co-conspirator Robert “Freeze” Riggs. Fueled by heroin and other drugs, the two would put Angels body into a box and dump it into the Hudson River.

Alig was later charged with his death. His life and times as leader of a group of kids who would frequent Club Limelight in New York was captured in the 2003 film, “Party Monster.” The role of Michael was played by McCauley Culkin.
